Class Information
Whether your dancer is stepping into the studio for the first time, continuing their training, or looking for their next challenge, Elite Dance Company offers a range of classes and training pathways designed to support dancers at different stages of their journey.
Our classes focus on quality training, strong technical foundations, confidence and personal growth within a positive and supportive environment.
Recreational Training
Our Recreational Dance Program is all about high-quality training, personal growth and the joy of dance.
Designed for students who want to develop their skills, stay active, build friendships and enjoy performing without the pressures of competition, our recreational classes provide a warm and supportive environment where dancers can progress at their own pace.
Led by passionate, qualified industry professionals, classes focus on strong technical foundations, creativity, confidence, fitness and teamwork. Along the way, dancers develop valuable skills including discipline, resilience and commitment.
Recreational dancers also have the opportunity to perform, including taking the stage in our annual End of Year Concert to celebrate their hard work, progress and achievements.
Whether a dancer attends once a week or trains across several styles, we want every student to feel supported, inspired and proud of what they accomplish.
Regular attendance, respectful behaviour, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are expected from all students so they can gain the most from their training experience.
Performance Team Training
For dancers seeking a higher level of training and competitive performance opportunities, Elite Dance Company offers our Performance Team Program.
Performance Teams are designed for dedicated dancers who demonstrate exceptional commitment, discipline, teamwork, work ethic and a positive attitude towards their training.
Performance Team placement is by invitation and at the discretion of Elite Dance Company faculty. There is no single formal audition for team positions. Instead, dancers are observed and evaluated throughout their training.
Faculty consider factors including:
Attendance and consistency
Training progress and technical ability
Behaviour and attitude
Work ethic
Teamwork
Physical capability
Ability to retain choreography and apply corrections
Commitment to training, rehearsals and performances
Alignment with Elite Dance Company values
Performance Team members are also required to complete designated prerequisite classes to ensure they have the technical foundation required for competitive choreography and training.
Performance Teams involve a significant commitment to classes, rehearsals and competitions. Families should carefully consider other sporting or extracurricular commitments before accepting a position within the program.
Full Performance Team requirements, prerequisites and expectations are available in the Elite Dance Company Handbook.
Class Placement
Finding the right class isn't simply about age.
At Elite Dance Company, class placement is carefully considered to ensure dancers are training at a level where they feel confident and supported while also being appropriately challenged.
Our class levels are generally aligned with the dancer's current RAD Ballet grade:
RAD Ballet Grade x EDC Class Level:
Primary/Grade 1- Mini
Grade 2 - Petite
Grade 3 - Junior
Grade 4/Grade 5 - Pre-Teen
Intermediate Foundation - Teen
Intermediate - Senior
These groupings are a general guide rather than a guarantee of placement.
The Studio Director may also consider previous dance experience, technical ability, maturity and learning style when determining the most suitable class for each dancer.
This allows us to place students where they are best positioned to develop, feel successful and continue progressing.
Does My Dancer Have to Take Ballet?
Ballet is not compulsory for recreational students; however, it is highly encouraged.
Ballet supports technical development, strength and progression across dance styles and provides dancers with valuable foundations that complement their broader training.
For Performance Team students, specific ballet and additional training prerequisites apply depending on team placement.
Class Descriptions
RAD Ballet
A syllabus-based ballet program developing technical precision, strength, flexibility and artistry. Students progress through graded and vocational levels using the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) training system.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics combines dance with acrobatic skills including balances, flexibility, limbering and tumbling.
Students progress through skills safely while developing strength, flexibility, coordination, body control and confidence.
For advanced and Performance Team dancers, acro training progresses to more complex tumbling, balances and contortion elements, with a focus on safely incorporating these skills into performance routines.
Contemporary
A creative and expressive style blending elements of ballet, jazz and modern dance.
Students explore movement and musicality while developing fluidity, agility, strength and personal expression in their dancing.
Jazz
An energetic style focusing on strong technique, sharp movement and performance skills.
Students develop skills including kicks, turns and leaps while learning combinations to a variety of upbeat music.
Lyrical
A fluid and emotive style combining elements of ballet and jazz technique.
Often performed to music with meaningful lyrics, dancers learn to connect their movement with the emotion of the music while developing control, extension and grace.
Performance Training Classes
The following classes form part of our advanced and Performance Team training pathways and may be required as prerequisites for selected teams.
Extension
A targeted training class designed to build strong, injury-free dancers and support longevity in their training.
Students work on strength, flexibility, stability, alignment and safe technique practices to enhance all areas of their dancing.

A versatile technical class exposing dancers to a range of styles including jazz, contemporary, lyrical and heels where age-appropriate.
The focus is on refining technical execution, improving movement quality and continually developing versatility and performance strength.
Floor Barre
A placement and control-focused class using ballet and contemporary principles to develop correct alignment and muscle engagement without the strain of standing work.
This low-impact training develops core strength, flexibility, turnout and precision while supporting injury prevention and technical excellence.
Performance Team
A dedicated competition class where dancers work intensively on Elite Dance Company Performance Team routines.
Classes focus on choreography, staging, synchronisation and performance quality while developing the professionalism, teamwork and stage presence required in a competitive environment.
